NEW PERSPECTIVE OF BOROBUDUR
GET CLOSER TO REDIFINE AN ANCIENT TEMPLE
Borobudur Temple is not only a masterpiece of architecture but also a silent witness to the glory of Nusantara’s civilization that has stood for over 1,200 years. Yet aging structures, gradual soil subsidence, material erosion, and the strain of over 1.4 million visitors annually present serious challenges to its preservation. Beyond merely protecting its physical form, there is a need to discover new ways for today’s generation to experience Borobudur’s magnificence without adding further burden to this fragile monument.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, we introduced a fresh perspective: exploring Borobudur virtually in rich detail, set against the authentic atmosphere of the 8th-century Syailendra dynasty, while uncovering the complete history of its creation. Programs such as the Borobudur VR Story, interactive VR Carving Games, AR Flora & Fauna Borobudur Relief, and VR Borobudur Meditation offer not only an alternative visit but also an educational journey, debunking myths and highlighting the brilliance of our ancestors. This initiative makes it possible for anyone, from anywhere and any age, to connect with Borobudur’s timeless legacy, transcending distance, time, and generations.
